As you are all aware this site sometimes caters a bit too far towards the SM side of our bikes.
Well in the interest of balance, I am thinking about trying to get a bit of green laning going on a more organised course than just looking for roads. No pedestrians, no cops, no walkers :)

just mailed http://www.endurokent.co.uk/ to see what their tracks are like and what type of setup would be required. I am prone to taking my SM offroad in SM mode, so am looking for something that can get us all together, with no racing for a ride around.

Anyone fancy this, sorry it's a bit south biased, but if anybody has something such as this near them or more central, link it here and all interested, indicate below, so I can see if we could get only us or we need a more organised mixed day.

For central people there's Enduroland near Silverstone.

We're pretty much okay down here in Devon. I joined the DevonTRF a couple of years back and was then introduced to many local riders. The Devon TRF has several hundred members and over 1,000 researched legal green lanes. Some of these would be okay for an SM while others would make an off-road track look tame. I can often go out for 8 hrs riding and do in the region of 60-70 green lanes and only have cover about 75 miles. We also have several fund raisers throughout the summer which are either on private farm land or practise/MX race tracks.
We often take out members of other neighbouring groups as well.
Dorset & Somerset are regularly visitors but we also have some come up from Cornwall as well as down from Wales.

So if your nearby and fancy a look around some green lanes then let me know, alternatively look up your own local TRF group, just just might be surprised how large a lane network you might be sitting on without even knowing it. ;)

Saw some laners in Braunton last weekend one of which was a yellow DRZ.

They were (I think) some of my local riding buddies and the DRZ was a guy down from north Wales. My friend took a week off work and set about riding 5 days straight. He covered over 600 miles, and I don't think he left Devon - he has a WR450 though. Maybe he'll see the light and get a DRZ next time.

Yeah, one was definitely a Yam, didn't get close enough to see which model though. There was a Honda too, was pissing down with rain, so probably not their bet day!

Hi,

Devon TRF sounds really interesting, I didn’t know such a group exists!

I have recently switched to my SM setup but for the most part of this year I’ve been running knobblies in dirt setup. Found the DRZ to be a great trail bike. Found a lot of places to ride, trouble is I don’t think I was meant to be at any of them legally, found myself always having to make a quick getaway when the bike attracts attention. busted

Will be switching the bike back to Dirt setup as summer comes to an end, maybe sooner if the TRF looks good.

Would be very interested in joining a group which knows legal routes to ride. I’ve had a quick look on the Devon TRF website, and also the Somerset TRF site, seems the Somerset site is still under construction at moment with not a lot on it??

I considered entering Enduro events this year, as I used to ride MX machines, but I think the DRZ might be a bit of a trouble in a competition event due to weight disadvantage, but the open track days look good on the TRF website, how often does the group ride these tracks?

I live in Taunton area so nearby to devon/somerset boarder so unsure which group best to approach?

Final question, I currently running Yoshi pipe with the insert in, but the site makes it clear that they only permit ‘quite silenced’ machines. What pipe are you running and do you think my yoshi would be a problem?

Cheers *thumbs*

You could join both :)

You join the TRF itself, so you could just go to both local trf clubs...

Some of the pay and play sites will let bikes in :)

Down here in Sunny Cornwall, there is an offroad place near Truro, which is from what I know £10 a day...
All you need to do is sign a disclaimer to say if you hurt yourself, your bike etc, its not their fault...

Might go and do it one day :P

Hi Moto

For the most part you just join the national TRF group and nominate a group to belong too. Some groups have an extra charge to help pay for the running but that's not the case with any of the south west groups. Devon is largest and most active TRF group in the whole UK. 8-)

Somerset took a heavy beating at the hands of the NERC bill so lost a great deal of it's lane structure - this had a big effect on the activity of the group but some parts of the group are still very active, and they are the parts that fringe with other areas. It's difficult to know what to do for the best being as your in Taunton. I'd first contact the Somerset TRF and try to go to one of their monthly meetings, or go out for a ride with them. If the group seems active enough then join them. You can still join the Devon TRF Open forum and coming along on are rides, or join the events. If Somerset isn't active then you'll be made welcome in the Devon group, you'll just have to travel often if you want to join in on regular rides out.

The events happen throughout the summer season and I think there around 6 events or so. There are many more track events which happen throughout the south west and once you get talking to people in the group you'll probably find about about them. These will be just local tracks dotted around the south west.

As a group we (Devon TRF) have 2 meeting per month - one out east which is my area and one down south Devon (which is the official one). Your welcome to coming along if you want to meet some of us.

Here's a link to Somerset group and from there you can join the forum
http://www.somerset-trf.co.uk/
I see what you mean about it looking like it's under construction.

Best think would be to look at the main TRF site
http://www.trf.org.uk/groups/group-listing.html

As for your exhaust pipe - I'm sure it'll be fine. ;)
Mine isn't very quiet but if your not holding the throttle wide open it tends to be much quieter. :D
